‘League of Legends’ Girl Group Earns Madison Beer, (G)I-DLE & Jaira Burns No. 1 on World Digital Song Sales Chart

Madison Beer, (G)I-DLE and Jaira Burns coming together as a super-pop group K/DA all in the name of 'League of Legends' has produced a No. 1 hit with "POP/STARS."

Madison Beer, (G)I-DLE and Jaira Burns coming together as a super-pop group all in the name of League of Legends has produced a No. 1 hit.

“POP/STARS” is the creation of K/DA, aka the name given to the international pop collaboration, which starts atop the World Digital Song Sales chart this week. The high-energy, bilingual banger sold 9,000 copies in the week ending Nov. 8, according to Nielsen Music. The track also debuts at No. 10 on Pop Digital Song Sales and No. 30 on Digital Song Sales.

The song is credited to K/DA as well as all three artists involved, marking all three’s first appearances on Digital Song Sales and first No. 1s on World Digital Song Sales. Beer previously appeared on Pop Digital Song Sales with “All for Love” featuring Jack & Jack from 2015, but marks the first appearance for (G)I-DLE and Burns.

Notably, this makes (G)I-DLE just the fourth K-pop girl group to hit No. 1 on World Digital Song Sales and fifth female act overall. They follow girl groups BLACKPINK (who have four chart-toppers and lead among all K-pop female acts), 2NE1 (with two), TWICE (one) and soloist CL (also with one). (G)I-DLE previously hit as high as No. 2 on the tally earlier this year with their summer single “Hann (Alone).” Other than (G)I-DLE, only 10 K-pop acts have hit No. 1 on World Digital Song Sales.

League of Legends developer Riot Games previously told Billboard about their plans to see their company more as a full-fledged music label in the future. Not only has their collaboration helped artists conquer new chart territory, but the the impressive stats across the board show — including more than 50 million views on YouTube of the “POP/STARS” video and, now, a No. 1 hit — all signs point to esports very possibly shaping what can make a hit song in the future.
